Here come the girls!

I say 'girls'; I love a euphemism. We are off for a quiet drink in a local hostelry for a catch-up and a gossip.

But there's just time to say that I'm celebrating the end of Masterchef. I haven't watched it, but I live with someone who has, so I've absorbed the finer points by osmosis.

Repeat after me, Michel: it's just food. I don't want pork cooked three ways, I don't want jus, veloute, crumb, beurre blanc, reduction or deconstruction - and I certainly don't want foam. I want something tasty, nutritious and faff free. Thank you.

  2. Hope you had fun with the girls. I agree - just food. I don't watch any reality TV.

  3. Ha ha. My husband and I are addicted to Masterchef Australia (how random is that!) we have about a million recorded and are working our way through them. Anyone for a macaroon tower?

  4. Congrats on the show ending! I'm celebrating 1.) living at the beach in California even during a cold snap, 2.) finding out my tooth does not have to be pulled--it's a sinus infection!, and 3.) having my young adult horror story, Death House, get accepted for publishing (woo hoo!), as well has having my short story, "Christmas After All," released tomorrow in a Christmas anthology called A Touch of Winter. Happy Holidays!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Carole. Fancy a sinus infection being a cause for celebration! The lesser of two evils?

    1. I'm with Shirley Conran: Life is too short to stuff a mushroom.

  6. Now, you see; I do watch Masterchef, especially the professional one. I find it strange that the contestants come out with some fairly naff recipes in the first few rounds, doing enough to get through, then sparkle like the veritable stars they are only a few weeks later.

I say, carry on Michel, I may never want to do Foam (Life... shortness thereof, discuss) I have done beurre blanc, reduction and even veloute before now. Never all at once or indeed knowing that that was what I was doing.

Faff, as you say Ju, may not suit every one but what would a piece of writing be without a sufficiency of vocabulary, a choral work with out the frivolous addition of the second sops and the altos? Engravings without curlicues and filligrees or indeed, in deference to yo' hubby, the icing on a cake?

    1. Graham, be that as it may, and probably is, I just don't get it. And I wonder who it was that first prised open a scallop shell and thought it would be a good idea to eat the contents. He or she must have been desperate!

    2. Needed a pair of ashtrays...... contents fell into hot pan.... the rest, as they say, is geography!

  7. Cookery programs don't do it for me either, Julia. But my daughter adores 'Come Dine With Me' - it drives me up the wall the way the guests poke around the host's house. It's just something you wouldn't do when invited out to dinner!
