Cinderella, as portrayed by Disney in 1950 |
I read a bit of 50 Shades: enough to know it wasn't for me. I saw a bit of the film, too: again, enough to know it wasn't for me - but oh, how it made me laugh. I don't get it. Who buys this stuff? I can understand buying the first one out of curiosity, but to go back for the other two? Like I said: I don't get it.
You've got to hand it to ELJ, though. She had an idea and ran with it. She timed it right, got lucky and hasn't let up since. She's probably a perfectly nice woman - and she certainly won't give a damn what I think.
I'm just envious of her success, aren't I?
Julia, I feel the same as you - it's not my thing, so I've not read any of the books nor felt the urge (if you'll pardon the expression) to see the films but each to their own. As you say, EL James has done very well out of 50 Shades and she'll probably make some more millions out of her new book!
ReplyDeleteHelen, she's crying all the way to the bank over my disapproval.
DeleteNah, I don't think you're envious. I think you truly aren't interested in her brand of stories. It's the same sort of thing when I say I'm not interested in reality shows like The Bachelor and Real Housewives. To each his or her own.
ReplyDeleteYou're crediting me with generosity of spirit I'm not sure I have, Priscilla. ;-)
DeleteCan't say I'm interested in her type of stories either but that's mainly because of the erotica. I don't mind a fairy tale type romance but it kind of spoils it going too far and I imagine it gets very boring. I'm also surprised she's writing more of the same as I thought Amazon had cracked down on certain types of fiction. Maybe not?
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of hokey-cokey sex either, Rosemary. As for Amazon, well, I guess she stays just the right side of pornography.
